Broadband Initiative

The Campbell County Board of Supervisors is aware that there are pockets of Campbell County that are not presently covered by high-speed internet service. The Board, along with the departments of Information Technology and Economic Development, are working to address this issue and find ways to increase and improve broadband coverage.

Broadband Initiative Recommendations


Campbell County is interested in exploring a wide variety of broadband and wireless data system alternatives. RCC Consultants, Inc. (RCC) has been requested to analyze, evaluate and recommend a data solution initially for public safety users, with the potential to add non-public safety users to the system in the future.

Campbell County High-Speed Broadband Master Plan - 2010

 
Campbell County, Virginia has set goals to examine the future of countywide high-speed broadband service, specifically to determine the best method to provide access to high-speed broadband to the majority of the county. The county believes wide area high-speed broadband is important for public safety, education, businesses, and the general public. The County recognizes that having wide area high-speed broadband availability will improve the quality of life by advancing public safety services, by potentially enhancing education, by assisting the County’s economic development and by better serving the general public.

Broadband Assessment - Fiscal Year 2009

 
During Fiscal Year 2009 (July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009), one of Campbell County's Priority & Initiatives was to complete a broadband assessment to include the research obtained during the evaluation of the Brookneal 501 Corridor wireless Broadband Internet System.  It  incorporates and expands on the information included in the recently updated broadband infrastructure study completed by Virginia’s Region 2000.

The purpose of this assessment is to document the current state of broadband services across Campbell County and will provide the following:

  • Breadth and depth of broadband services;
  • Service providers involved;
  • Prices and service packages available.
